This article assesses the effects of international aid on the health sector in developing countries. We use estimation techniques such as Ordinary Least Squares (OLS), instrumental variables with fixed effects, and the dynamic panel approach. Using the data from various sources over the period 1990 to 2017 covering 126 developing countries, the initial results show that health aid contributes effectively and significantly to improved health outcomes in the developing countries at 1 and 5% of the significance thresholds. These results give the picture that the mobilization of the international community in favour of the health sector in the context of the MDGs through health aid has been more effective in achieving certain health goals from the 2000s onwards than before the Millennium Declaration. This study shows that it is in the interest of development partners, particularly those in the health sector, to significantly improve the survival and health of the populations of developing countries through health aid. It is recommended that development assistance policies be designed to take into consideration the existing institutional framework and how these resource flows interfere with, and therefore change, the incentive structure of recipient countries. The transfer of resources in the form of health aid to meet current needs must be complemented by other additional actions, such as education campaigns and infrastructure improvements, in order to achieve long-term improvement.

Generally, knowledge spillovers result in the creation of new knowledge, increased competitive advantages, and economic cooperation. Since the investigation of spillover flows among countries is considered to be highly important, in this study, knowledge spillovers and its resulting externalities were considered among a number of selected European countries during 1995 to 2011 using spatial econometric analysis. The results indicated an indirect effect and positive feedback caused by changing human development index, research and development expenditure, and knowledge-bearing imports, which confirmed the existence of spillovers and adsorption capacity in this region.

In this study, the effect of the changes in the value of fixed assets of the firms on reporting quality, financing, and investment, as a foreign factor, was examined in 152 listed firms in Tehran Stock Exchange based on the written information in the financial reports of these firms from 2006-2016. Hypotheses were tested using multivariate regression through Eviews software. Results showed that changes in the value of tangible fixed assets have lower effect on the financing of the firms with high reporting quality compared to the firms with lower reporting quality; but, this was not the case about investment. Also, results showed that changes in the value of fixed assets is correlated with reporting quality. Although based on explained theories in the literature, the correlation of financial reporting quality and provision cost was confirmed, the results of this study didn’t show the effect of changes in the value of fixed tangible assets on the investment of listed firms in Tehran Stock Exchange.

This study investigates empirically the determinants of innovation performance of Pakistani SMEs, through micro level evidence. There is research gap of innovation analysis of Pakistani SMEs at micro level. The data has been drawn from World Bank Enterprise Survey of 1247 Pakistani manufacturing SMEs, by applying Bivariat Probit model. Our findings indicated that Pakistani SMEs are less probability to introduce product and process innovation. Additionally, external R&D, networking, absorptive capacity and exports have positive and significant effect on product and process innovation. This provides a way for policy makers to increase investment in infrastructures (i.e. telecommunications and network) and knowledge based assets (i.e. R&D) and should contribute private and public sectors organizations to increasing the innovation performance of SMEs.

This paper presents a conceptual framework to help in the interpretation or design of contingent valuation studies for improving river water quality in a developing country setting. An extensive literature review helped design this conceptual framework. Though the betterment of the river water quality has drawn the attention from various stakeholders, dearth of studies to deliver precise information about the value of the water quality appears a major drawback in developing countries to implement improvement plans. The major objective of this paper is to review the recent developments on non-market valuation e.g., contingent valuation method to design an appropriate economic valuation study for the river water quality. This study provides useful information which may help for further improvement of the water quality in an alike problem of developing countries. Future studies should validate empirically the proposed research framework.

We now commonly see that sports sponsorship is used by companies as part of their marketing efforts. The question that comes to mind is: why should the companies be interested in sponsorship? One view is that if sports sponsorship is done properly, it can provide good opportunities for distinct marketing and competitive advantages, and also showing support for the event. It is also considered as one of the communication vehicles available, which is capable of helping to form a long-term relationship with the consumers. Brand building is another objective for using sports sponsorship. It is natural that different companies will not have similar objectives for sports sponsorship. Academic research in a number of countries has tried to understand the various reasons and objectives for sports sponsorship. However, in India, academic research on sports sponsorship is hard to come by. Therefore, for this paper, various objectives for sports sponsorship and related aspects were primarily identified on the basis of review of available literature from other counties. A questionnaire was designed containing Likert-type statements about sport sponsorship management while setting the objectives as well as importance attached to various identified objectives. Responses received from 248 respondents were analyzed and described using means and standard deviation. Statements about ‘strengthening/altering the company image as an objective’ and ‘likely benefits to be derived from sponsorship’ have been found to be more important. The statements on ‘monetary profit due to sponsorship’ and ‘utility of objective setting to measure sponsorship effectiveness’ are surprisingly lower down the order. Sponsorship objectives which turned out to be most important belong to three categories namely, media coverage, objectives related to product/service/brand, and general corporate objectives.

This study examines the effect of financial integration on economic growth in Nigeria. Using time series data from 1981 and 2012, the study employs autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) bounds testing approach proposed by Pesaran et al., (2001) to estimate the long run and short run effect of financial integration and development on economic growth. The result from cointegration test showed presence of long run relationship between dependent and all explanatory variables. The regression results show that, while financial integration has no short run effect on economic growth, its long run effect on growth is negative and significant. Financial development was found to have both short run and long run positive effect on economic growth in Nigeria. Hence, for Nigeria to benefit from financial integration, the government has to increase the level of competition, improve the quality of financial information and reduce corruption in the financial system.

Providing the required cut panels to the sawing department on time, is the major task and responsibility of the cutting department of an apparel manufacturer. Therefore, the cutting process is one of the main value adding processes. Several functions are included in the cutting process; namely fabric laying, cutting and bundling of cut panels. Since other processes are depended on the fabric laying, it plays a crucial role. This study attempts to develop a model to determine the fabric laying time of Gerber machines used in the cutting department. First the factors that affect to the lay time are identified. The actual times taken for each of these factors are collected for non-woven trouser patterns for a period of month totaling 89 data points. Descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis are used to analyze the data. Overall, the results show that six factors out of identified seven are significantly useful in predicting total lay time. Particularly, the results of the regression analysis indicate that at a α=0.01 level of significance, loading time, damage check time, joint time, preparation time, reverse time and cutting time are significantly contributing to total lay time. The regression model has an overall accuracy rate of 79.2 percent.

The manufacturing companies are classified into different sectors based on their products and services (Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) code) on OSIRIS databases. Then, they are categorized into one of the four groups: high, medium-high, medium-low, and low technology. The results of ANOVA test indicate that investment in IC and its components, and efficiency of IC and its components vary with degree of technology of the manufacturing companies. It also can be concluded that more investment in IC components does not necessarily lead to more efficiency of IC.

Inequality in income distribution is the source of injustices such as class differences based on wealth, incomes, and consumption among members of society. Achieving fair distribution of income requires the proper use of economic instruments among which monetary policy is the most important tool. In this study, using annual data from 1979-2013, the effects of liquidity volume (monetary policy index) on inequality of income distribution (using Gini coefficient inequality index) have been addressed. Therefore, Gini coefficient function was estimated with particle swarm optimization algorithm and genetic algorithm. And based on performance assessment criteria, the model with particle swarm optimization algorithm was chosen to study the impact of monetary policy on income distribution in Iran. Research results show that the relation of liquidity volume variable with direct income distribution and the relation of government expenses with income distribution are significant and indirect. Also, the results show that by increasing human development index, income inequality in society increases and rising inflation reduces inequality of income distribution.

Farmers in Sumberejo Village cultivate vegetables simultaneously during certain seasons on their land. This study aims to analyze potential for increased production vegetables during Covid-19 pandemic. Data collected from 45 randomly selected farmers were analyzed using Cobb Douglas production function. The analysis showed that land area had a very significant effect and positive on the production of celery, mustard greens and red chilies. Seeds did not have a significant effect on celery and mustard greens production, but had a significant effect on red chilies. Fertilizers did not have a significant effect on the vegetables yields. Labor had a significant effect in different directions on celery production (positive) and pakcoy (negative), but does not have a significant effect on red chili. Pesticides only had a significant effect and positive on celery, while the mustard greens and red chilies have no significant effect. During a pandemic, the expansion of production vegetables included in category increasing return to scale, because sum of input coefficients was greater than one. These results can be a signal for farmers to increase their production. Government should regulate distribution of these commodities and the prices stability because people must keep their distance.

The purpose of this paper is to examine the relation between government size and openness for a 26-years panel of 30 Asian developing countries. It is argued that there is a negative relation between country size and government size and also between country size and openness. Considering that, some researchers concluded that there is a positive relationship between openness and the size of government. To reveal the relation between these two variables, we used two proxies for measuring the extent of openness. The proxy used for openness is the economic dimension of KOF index of globalization. Employing a non-stationary panel data technique and DOLS estimator, the results show that there is a positive relationship between economic globalization and government size.
