This paper considers mixed duopoly games where a state-owned public firm and a foreign private firm compete in price. The public firm aims to maximize the un-weighted sum of consumer surplus and its own profit. The paper examines a desirable role (either leader or follower) of the public firm, an effect of eliminating the foreign firm and an endogenous role in price-setting mixed duopoly by adopting the observable delay game. Consequently, the paper shows that the unique equilibrium of price-setting international mixed competition is quite different from that of quantity-setting international mixed competition.

Tax evasion is a problem which has caused the Ghanaian tax system right from the colonial times. While some have blamed the situation on the tax authorities for not living up to expectation with regards to tax administration, others attribute it to the unpatriotic attitude of the taxpayers. It was in the light of these challenging positions that this research was carried out using a survey involving tax authorities and individual taxpayers in Abossey Okai, Accra. The study examined the factors contributing to tax evasion in the informal sector, identified the various ways through which tax evasion is perpetrated and the challenges faced by tax authorities in generating tax revenue from the informal sector. The study made use of convenient sampling technique where both taxpayers and tax authorities were selected. The survey revealed that the informal sector of the Ghanaian economy is largely characterized by activities of sole-proprietors who are involved in retailing, wholesaling as well as repairs. It was also revealed that the dominance of sole-proprietorship business in the informal sector has made it difficult for tax authorities to levy taxes on them. The dominance of this business unit is associated with many characteristics which induces tax evasion. These characteristics include but not limited to business registration, lack of permanent business location and predominance of cash transactions. Tax evasion and for that matter the informal sector has caused a great deal of harm to Ghana through its direct and indirect consequences and if care is not taken will gain deep roots in this country. It is therefore recommended that for the Government of Ghana to meet the needs of the citizenry, it would be appropriate to take a look at the factors responsible for the incidence of high tax evasion in the economy.

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between transfer pricing and tax liability in Kenya’s cement industry. The dependent variable of tax liability was examined against independent sub-variables namely; business models, thin capitalization, tax haven utilization and intra-company payments. Using longitudinal research design, the study examined relationships between the independent and dependent variables tracked over a 10 year period starting 2005. Out of the 6 companies in the industry, the study targeted 3 companies using purposive sampling on the basis of availability of annual financial statements and affiliation to a multinational company. Quantitative data collected for this study was analyzed by both descriptive and inferential. Data presentation was then done using tables, charts and graphs. Content analysis was used for qualitative data and presentation done in prose form. Correlation and univariate linear regression analysis was done to establish existing relationships between the dependent variable and independent variables of interest. It was concluded that tax paid over the 10-year period had not been affected by business models in existence; thin capitalization practices; tax haven utilization and intracompany payments. This study therefore recommends that the tax authorities should channel resources towards studying and assessing other forms of transfer pricing abuse likely to yield better tax results than the four variables studied herein.

This case study adopted descriptive research design focusing on business managers from 126 businesses. A representative sample of 92 respondents was selected. The study also revealed that the usability aspects such as learnability, memorability of operating procedures that enhance human interaction in mobile technology has led to reduced demand for display and exhibition space in malls and over the counter transactions. The case study reveals further that lower information cost in mobile applications, invidualised perception of services has led to adoption of mobile transactions as a preferred means of business for previous mall customers. The study recommends that business owners in the physical malls can gain more value proposition if they offer virtual malls that can be accessed via mobile applications. There is also a need to integrate suitable mobile technology innovation in business models for competitive advantage.

This study has been conducted to find out the effect of exchange rate uncertainty on the export volume of Pakistan to its major trading partner countries. Volatility in the nominal exchange rate of Pakistan has been estimated through Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Hetroscedastic (GARCH) process. The findings showed that exchange rate uncertainty has negative significant impact on the volume of exports of Pakistan with all considered trading partner countries. In case of Hong Kong, Kuwait and Malaysia relative prices have negative significant effect on the volume of exports, while for the rest, trading partner countries the relationship is found positive and significant. It is further documented that political instability has significant negative impact on the volume of exports in almost all the trading partner countries. Exchange rate volatility curtails the volume of exports, so appropriate policies are required to be adopted, which will stabilize the exchange rate.

Stigma associated with mental illness is identified as a potential barrier for seeking psychological help for mental health disorders. The purpose of this study is to assess the perceived barriers and supporting factors and to find out the strategies to promote the help seeking behavior among university students. 16 in-depth interviews were conducted with students and students’ counselors from three state universities in Sri Lanka. Already developed and tested three questionnaires on help seeking behavior were used to develop guidelines. Barriers, supporting factors and strategies to promote counseling services were investigated. According to the findings, the most significant barrier for seeking counseling services is mental illness stigma. Males have a greater level of mental illness stigma than female. The rest of barriers are reluctance to share their problems with counselors, self-dependency, lack of trust on counselors, and lack of awareness about services availability. Most significant supporting factors are availability of free counseling services, proximity, and easy access to the counseling service. The strategies for promoting counseling services are promoting mental health education among students; making easy access to counselors; and developing a good relationship between students and counselors.

The focus of this study is to identify the environmental disclosures made by Bangladeshi companies and analyze the overall disclosure practice of the countries’ industries. And also collect the investor’s feedback on whether or not environmental disclosure information is making a difference in their decision making process and their opinion about the company. For conducting the research, the study has used 5 sectors- Engineering, Pharmaceuticals, Food, Textile and Fuel and Power along with 10 companies with each stratum. This study has used the standard environmental disclosure index developed by prior researchers to show the volume of the selected companies’ environmental disclosures in the annual reports. To show the impact of the environmental disclosures on the investors’ decision, the study has conducted a survey among the investors. The study shows evidence that reinforces the fact that Bangladeshi companies are disclosing less environmental information than an ideal company should. Also there are lack of regulation and interest in disclosing proper information. Although by conducting a survey it was seen that majority of investors and probable investors are interested in these information and are supportive of eco-friendly companies.

This article contributes to the revelation of a relevant and complex problem of the selection of advertising spokesperson while answering the research question, which lays a foundation of the scientific problem: how to choose a spokesperson for advertising to be effective? Accordingly, the aim of the article is to determine the impact of spokesperson on advertising effectiveness. Grounded on the theoretical framework, three different theoretical models representing the research hypotheses are analyzed in the article by applying PLS-SEM and PLS path modelling multi-group analysis. The analysis of the research results led to the elaboration of general model of the impact of spokesperson on advertising effectiveness, revealing that consumers’ attitude towards spokesperson that they are exposed to have an influence over their attitude towards advertisement, brand and purchase intention. Nevertheless, it is proved that different advertising spokespersons have different influence on advertising effectiveness. The conclusions are made that if seeking advertising effectiveness expressed as enhanced level of consumers’ purchase intentions, then the choice of celebrity spokesperson highly improves the possibility of creating effective advertising.

Partnership building is a popular and sometimes required approach for addressing complex and systemic societal issues that cannot be comprehensively addressed by any single person, organization, or sector. The purpose of the study was to examine the influence of partnership management on the performance of projects among nongovernmental organizations in Uganda. The study was both qualitative and quantitative in nature where data was collected through self-administered questionnaire and face-to-face interviews. The data collected was analyzed using custom tables. Correlation analysis was used to establish the relationship between partnership management and project performance. The study established that Planning was generally fairly done especially human resource planning but the partners could not freely make decisions. There was adequate coordination within the consortium as evident in the frequency of review meetings, clarity on reporting line and efficiency of communication but the failure of organization heads to attend coordination meetings, as required, affected implementation of action points. The study recommends thatthere should be respect and trust in the partnership such that Partners are allowed to make decisions freely. Action points from meetings should be followed up to ensure implementation by members of the consortium.
